in Earth’s Systems- Demonstration Sheet Balloon and Toothpicks You will need: a balloon a piece of wool a handful of toothpicks.

Experiment with the three items to see if you can pick

up the toothpicks without touching them with your

hands. How many toothpicks can you pick up at one

time?

Test 1- _____

Test 2- _____

Test 3- _____

Lightning Demonstration You will need: A balloon 1 teaspoon of salt 1 teaspoon of pepper A bowl A spoon to mix

Can you pick up toothpicks

with a balloon?___________

Mix the salt and pepper in a pile. Then, quickly rub the balloon on your head and hold it close to the pile. Watch as the pepper jumps away from the salt! Rub the balloon for different lengths of time to hold different amounts of static to pick up more pepper. **What does each part of the demonstration represent? Balloon- _______________________ Static Electricity- ________________ Pepper- ________________________ How does this represent homeostasis within the environment?

What other natural occurrences maintain homeostasis within the environment? ______________________________________________________ Observations: Observations:**
