Water Powered Rocket
Tech Doc
Introduction
You will be making rockets, but it isn’t really rocket science. Water powered rockets are something of a
staple module at INNOFEST’18. A good rocket takes care of its weight distribution, and its symmetry.
The launcher will be standard ASME UET Narowal Chapter produced launcher, so don’t worry about
making your own launcher. The task of every participating team is to launch their rocket vertically with
payload and ensure two things. When the rocket reaches its maximum height, the parachute should be
deployed and the rocket makes a smooth landing with the provided payload remaining safe.
Rules and Guidelines
Only water will be used as propellant.
Rocket can be of any length but the fuel chamber should be made of a 1.5L Coke Bottle.
Usage of any sort of chemicals as propellants is strictly not allowed.
You can only use one fuel chamber.
Teams should only use the ASME Chapter provided launcher.
Each team will get 2 attempts to launch their rocket.
The nozzle of the bottle should not be tempered with as it would render it incompatible with the
standard ASME Chapter launcher.
Art work and Stickers may be applied.
The launching pressure will be fixed: 60 to 80 psi.
The decision of judges will be final. No one shall argue with judges.
In case of any complaint,
The team leader should write down the points of contention and discuss
with the highest authority present in private. The judges shall decide the
further course of action. No complaint will be entertained if it doesn’t
follow the above mentioned procrdure.
How to Make Basic Rocket
Following are some of the ways to make a rocket (you can use other than these).
1. Conventional way.
2. Using Arduino microcontroller.

How to Make Basic Rocket

Following are some of the ways to make a rocket (you can use other than these).

  1. Conventional way.
  2. Using Arduino microcontroller.

Conventional way

Material Any soft drink bottle (opening unaltered), blade cutter, squash tape, scissors, scale, parachute cloth and thread.

Procedure

  • Take two or three 1 .5 litre Coke (Only) bottles
  • Use one bottle for placing payload, one for parachute and one for launching
  • For making octagonal or round parachute use following formulas:

0 1

S= (2xgxm) / ( B FxCxV

  • S is the area of parachute
  • m is mass of rocket in grams
  • ƿ is density of air
  • C is coefficient of drag; estimated at 0.
  • V is speed velocity of rocket at landing.

If you want round canopy. The diameter is found by using formula:
