lOMoARcPSD| lOMoARcPSD| Due to the increasing percentage of older adult clients in the U.S., it is imperative that healthcare providers assess and confront their own attitudes and perceptions toward older adults. In your initial post, address the following:
lOMoARcPSD| Just last week we learned about how the older adult community are major health care consumers. This is partially due to poor health care from the providers side of things. When ageism comes into play in the health care setting it cause negative affects to the older adults. When providers are not taking the time to learn about the older adults they are caring for it becomes difficult for them to teach them how to take care of their selves when they leave our care. Again, circling back to last weeks lesson, we learned about age cohorts and how if we can better understand generational differences, we can provide better care for them. If we as health care providers can provide optimistic care to older adults without ageism involved, they can have a better chance of feeling better about their selves and in return take the time to better care for their selves. Personally, I believe when we hear ageism going on around us, we need to put an immediate end to it quickly. Teaching said person or people talking poorly about the older adult community about the negative affects it can have on them. We as healthcare providers take an oath to protect our patients, with that, older adults deserve the same level of care we would provide to anyone younger than them as well. If we get the chance to, we need to stand up for the older adult community. Honestly, if it wasn’t for them a lot of us wouldn’t be here References: World Health Organization. (2021, March 18).
