Multivariate analysis of assemblage zone

An assemblage zone is characterized by a particular suite of taxa regardless of their range, and typically combine ecological and stratigraphical informations

  • (^) Data: qualitative, with rectangular matrix data where

samples on one axis and taxa arrayed on the other

  • (^) Analysis: Q-mode (determine the relations between

samples)

  • (^) Step:
    • (^) 1. Data better to be presented in “range-through” format
    • (^) 2. Decision wether RBV should be applied or not. Better use the taxa with high RBV value.
    • (^) 3. Selection method to calculate similarity or dissimilarity
    • (^) 4. Multivariate analyses. One can perform cluster analysis. Ordination should be use in conjunction with clustering. (most common ordination use are PCA, principal coordinate, correspondence anlysis). Other method use lateral linkage (I.e: lateral tracing method).

Nonmetric multi dimentional scaling Using the first and second principal component This method can handle non linear information.
