Lesson Outcomes:
By the end of the lesson students will be able to:
explain how the beliefs and values of the ancient society are evident in practices related
to at least ONE of the following: death and funerary customs
Assessment (Diagnostic/Formative/Summative)
Formative – note taking of video, listing of process of mummy on video and questioning, context clues and label mummy process
worksheet.
Summative – mummy race.
Equipment /Resources:
PowerPoint, laptops, exercise book, and worksheet.

I can describe funerary customs in ancient Egypt. Body 1 Teacher explains student task of watching YouTube clip and note-taking of video. Whilst clip is playing, teacher pauses on key points and asks questions for students to answer. Students watch clip and take down notes. Students are to list process of mummification in their exercise books. Body 2 Worksheet of context clues and label pictures Teacher hands out worksheet to students and answer together as a class. Students to complete worksheet context clues together. Students work on labelling canopy jars and process of mummification independently. Extension: colour jars. Conclusion Mummy race. Teacher divides students in mixed ability of group members of four. Teacher is to ask questions for students as a revision quiz based on mummification and funerary customs. Students are to volunteer one person to wrap up in toilet paper. Students are to answer questions as a competition, for each question right, they are able to wrap person. Wrong answer is to remove the wrapping. First one to have a complete wrapped mummy wins. Homework : Reflection :
