Mindfulness Reflection Week 3 Chamberlain University College of Nursing NR103: Transition to the Nursing Profession

Mindfulness Reflection Week 3 A balanced diet is paramount for healthy living. I have understood how calories— especially “empty calories”—impact my physical and emotional well-being. Selecting healthful meals not only provides energy for my body but also for my mind. Therefore, I’ve adopted deliberate steps to prioritise wholesome eating habits. Despite the abundance of convenience foods in today’s society, I adhere to the 80/20 rule, favouring good calories—making up about 85% of my diet—over empty ones. I grew up in a culture where homemade meals were the norm and packaged foods were considered treats. When I indulge in packaged snacks, typically laden with sugars and empty calories, I encounter energy crashes and a lingering sense of hunger afterwards. Moments like this remind me of the importance of a whole meal over empty calories. Moreover, I’ve implemented various strategies to prioritise good calories over empty ones in my daily routine. Firstly, I cook most of my meals from scratch, ensuring the quality of the ingredients. Additionally, I maintain a structured food timetable to guide me, incorporating various foods to get all my nutrients and feel satiated. Conclusion Prioritising healthy eating habits and consuming more good calories has contributed to maintaining energy and well-being. This mindful approach to eating underlines how vital a high- quality diet is to a healthy lifestyle.
