- Power line network has very extensive infrastructure in every building.
- The use of this network for transmission of data in addition to power supply has gained a lot of attention.

- Select a modem chip that is not specifically made for PLC.
- Design and fabricate a leased line modem using the selected modem chip.
- Test the fabricated modem for PC-to-PC leased line communication.

- Power lines were originally devised for transmission of power at 50-60 Hz and at most 400 Hz.
- At high frequencies power line is very hostile for signal propagation because, at high frequencies, its capacitive impedances become more pronounced. The problem is due to two things i.e. attenuation and noise .

All rights reserved. 13 Modulation Techniques Before we get into Modulation techniques, there are few thing that we need to know about PLC. oPower-line channel is a harsh environment. oThe characteristics of power-line technique tend to vary in time, location and wit load changes. o Conventional modulation techniques such as ASK, PSK and FSK are ruled out by hostile behavior of power-line channel for very high data rate.
