This assignment is regarding studying and designing a recommender system for the given problem. You
have to provide following details:
Which technique is more suitable and why? 1%
Based on the selected technique, provide details for the following components: 2%
o Profile management
o Model for computing recommendation Architecture of the system
o Evaluation of recommendation results
How are we going to add explanation component to provide the reason why such
recommendations were made? 1%
Odd group numbers (i.e. group 1, 3, 5) will solve problem 1 and even group numbers (i.e. group 2, 4,
6 …) will solve problem 2.
Problem Statement 1:
SEECS has a list of elective courses for students of different departments. These courses are generally
offered after two years (from fifth semester). We want to implement a recommender system to
recommend/suggest students a list of elective courses in their next semesters according to their
previous performance in different courses.
Problem Statement 2:
SEECS wants to offer a number of short courses for their faculty members. These courses will be offered
to faculty members based on their research interests, experience, period of stay at SEECS and some
other criteria. We want to implement a recommender system to recommend/suggest faculty members
and administration a list of short courses.
