  1. Observations: a. Experimental set-up: It depends of the compound that kangkong stalk was soaked into of how the kangkong stalk bended b. Control set-up: The kangkong stalk bended differently depending on the water alone
  2. Conclusion: The type of compound determines the length of time the kangkong stalk bends and the style of bend. The largest water potential is found in the kangkong stalk that was soaked in water, followed by water with 3 tsp of salt, water with two tsp of salt, and then water with only one tsp. While the kangkong stalk that had been soaked in water bended first in terms of reaction time, then water with 2 tsp of salt, followed by water with one tsp of salt, and finally the water with 3 tsp of salt.
  3. Do you accept or reject the hypothesis? Defend your answer. We reject the null hypothesis because the time and type of bending of the kangkong stalk depended upon the type of solution we soaked the stalk into.
  1. Discuss the importance of a control in interpreting the results of an experiment. By using controls, the experimenter can reduce the impact of variables other than the one being investigated. This is how we can be sure an experiment is testing what it says it is testing. Controls are important for any type of experimental testing, regardless of the topic matter, and this goes beyond science.
  2. What are the reasons for conducting an experiment? The experiment is a particularly helpful tool for explaining change, examining cause and effect relationships, or drawing a conclusion from a theory. Ability to distinguish the independent, or causative, variable from other sources of the specific effect you are analyzing is a crucial qualification.
  3. Differentiate discovery-based from hypothesis-driven science. Discovery-based is typically inductive, seeks to observe, explore, and discover, whereas hypothesis-driven science, which is typically deductive, begins with a specific question or problem and a potential answer or solution that can be tested.
  4. Explain how the scientific way of learning and solving problems can be useful to you. Scientific method teaches me how to think, learn, solve problems and make me informed decisions. These are abilities are essential in all aspects of me as a student.
