Section A: Histology Answer two questions as follows:

one question out of 1 or 2

AND

one question out of 3 or 4

  1. Give an overview on how to proceed during examination of histological slides of lymphatic organs.In particular: which are the criteria and the procedure to follow to differentiate between the individual organs? Finally, describe the histological structure and circulation of the spleen.
  2. Compare and contrast the endocrine organs.
  3. Describe the general histological structure of the intestine. Describe the differences in thehistological structure between the small and large intestine. Highlight the characteristic and differential features of each section of the small intestine.
  4. Describe the histological structure of the nephron. Include a detailed description of the histologicalfeatures of the renal corpuscle.

Section B: Embryology Answer two questions as follows:

one question out of 1 or 2

AND

one question out of 3 or 4

  1. Describe gastrulation.
  2. Describe the formation and functions of the placenta.
  3. Highlight the main steps of development of the embryonic pharynx: Explain the general content ofthe pharyngeal arches and list the derivatives of each pouch and cleft. Give a very brief account on how lateral cysts of the necks arise
  4. Highlight the steps of septation of the atria, ventricles and outflow tract and their temporalframework. List the changes in foetal circulation that occur after birth
