Talent Turnovers and Ethics Purdue University Global MT203: Human Resource Management – Unit 9 The technology company that I work for has had difficulties resulting from expert employees leaving the company after only 6 months to a year of employment. This turnover has

caused client software projects to not be completed as scheduled. The CEO has directed me, the HR director, to find out that the salaried, full-time employees at this level of expertise are working 60 hours a week or more on a regular basis. There are ethical problems associated with how things are going within this company. By finding out those problems within the technology company, coming up with an ethical approach to solve the problem with overworked employees, and to figure out a training and development method, the company will then become successful in completing the client software projects. One of the company’s problem would be high attrition rates among new hires. High-level expertise employees who are basically campus hires or hired laterally leave the company within 6 to 1 year of entering the company. This has led to multiple projects put on hold and the replacements have not been found for most of the vacant positions. The second problem that the company is having is salaried employees working stretched working hours. Most of the full-time employees are subject to working for longer hours, around 60 hours from the week, which would be more than the average industry 40 hours worked per week. Increased working hors can lead to fatigue and mental illness for some employees. Various studies show that fatigue-related errors made by employees working in these kinds of demanding schedules can have serious and adverse repercussions for public safety. The ethical approach that would be successful would be the utilitarian approach. The utilitarian approach determines which laws were morally best for the parties involved. To analyze an issue using the utilitarian approach, we first identify the various courses of action available to us. Second, we would ask who will be affected by each action and what benefits or harms will be derived from each. Thirdly, we choose the action that will produce the greatest benefits and the least harm. The ethical action is the one that provides the greatest good for the
