Task A. In scenario 1, it seems Sarah cannot sit in her seat for a long time and walk around the classroom, distracting other students as well. Her often wandering around the school shows she lacks self-control in the classroom, which makes it hard for her to stay focused and interested in the topic for long enough to learn anything. Her distracting behavior has a mirror effect as other students follow it. Students get interrupted in their lessons, and it also creates an environment of chaos instead of learning. Since the teacher must stop the experience to fix the behavior of the distracting student, it takes time away from the planned lesson. Unless the action is addressed through strategic and clear expectations, it may cause the power struggle between the student and the teacher. B. A possible reason for Sarah's behavior can be that lesson for the student may not be challenging or interesting enough. Since it is mentioned in the scenario that Sarah is a member of the photography and moviemaking club, it seems to me that she is a visual learner. One of the other reasons could be what occurred just before Sarah's wandering off her seat, such as when Joey talks off the topic, and it distracts her, and also, it may provide Sarah with a cue that the teacher will focus on Joey's talking. C. One of the instructional interventions specific to the student that could be used to address the student's behavior is to set the expectational rules for the classroom, such as to stay in your seat unless directed by the teacher. When a student starts to misbehave, reinforcement strategy by calling that student's name without any confrontational tone, just in a calmer voice and asking them to repeat the rule, will enforce a reminder of rule and what is expected
of that student and all the students. Another instructional strategy would be to incorporate visual presentations in the classroom of the lessons being taught, which will make the material more interesting for all the students. D. Student โ Joey Type of technology โ Twiddle application. Since Joey seems to be a talkative student, I would incorporate something more engaging to keep his focus on the task at hand, such as the utilization of Twiddle application on iPad. I would ask him and other students in the classroom to pair up and draw five animals we learned about to be guessed by their partners. And I would provide students a short break time to show what they drew to their partners and discuss them. This activity will provide Joey a short break to talk and then refocus on learning material. (Walsh, 2014)
Type of technology โ Task reminder checklist application and Cacoo website on iPad. I would incorporate the utilization of a task reminder checklist on iPad for James since he seems to have behavioral issues and to refuses to participate in the classroom. This strategy would help him break down the task into small segments to accomplish and I would place his seating near me so I can quickly check on him and redirect his behavior. And in the classroom, I can use Cacoo application after the lesson, to revisit what we learned. And ask students to make diagrams or flowcharts on the topic. (Walsh, 2014)
