With that, I welcome you to module 1 on Contemporary Arts discussing on the Roles and contributions of Filipino Artist to contemporary arts. This module will lead you to learn the roles and contributions of our Filipino Artists in Music and Dance to Contemporary Arts. Introduction Lesson 1: Contemporary Arts (Music & Dance ) Filipino artists play a vital role in presenting and educating the public about our history, culture and identity. Various artists are doing work, artist groups are following, and the market is getting stronger. There are many Filipino artists in the field of music and dance who give their ample contribution to their respective specialization. Contemporary artists contributed their share in introducing innovative sound, artistic dance styles from the traditional folk dance and kundiman melodies that we have accustomed to some adopt the impressionistic style, while other combined ethnic, sounds and steps and musical elements with western techniques in their compositions and styles. At the end of this module, you are expected to achieve the following tasks:

_1. Discuss the role and contribution of Filipino artists to contemporary arts in Music.& Dance.

2. Explain the role and contribution of Filipino Artist to contemporary Arts.

He was a Filipino composer and lyricist who is credited to writing not less than 4,000 songs. Celerio was recognized as a National Artists of the Philippines for Music and Literature in 1997. Nicanor Abelardo – He was credited for bringing the KUndiman to the level of Arts.One of the Triumvirate of Filipino composers. He wrote most of his important works while teaching at the conservatory. His graduation piece, a Piano Sonata in G Major, was the first Sonata made by a Filipino composer[a]^ and his post-graduate piece, the Piano Concerto in B-flat minor, was the first concerto made by a Filipino composer. Almost all of his kundiman was written during his time as well. Alice Reyes – The Mother of Contemporary Dance.The founder of Ballet Philippines.She made a lasting impact on the development and promotion of Contemporary Dance in the Phils. And her biggest contribution is the development of distinctly Filipino Modern Dance. Francisca Reyes Aquino – She is the Folkdance pioneer in the Philippines,. She published enormous books regarding Philippine Dances like Fundamental of Dances Steps and Music. She published a thesis in 1926 entitled Philippine Folk Dances and Games where she noted on previously unrecorded forms of local celebration, ritual and sports. Her thesis was made with teachers and playground instructors from both public and private institutions in mind.

Ramon Obusan – He promoted the Philippine ethnic dances and performed them with respect and authenticity.He is also acclaimed archivist , researcher and documentary film maker on focused on Phil. Culture. Among Obusan's notable works are the following:Vamos a Belen! Series (1998-2004) Philippine Dances Tradition, Noon Po sa Amin, tableaux of Philippine History in song, drama and dance and Obra Maestra, a collection of Ramon Obusan's dance masterpieces This time challenge yourself to take higher task. Philippine Contemporary Art is the art of expression of one’s feelings, through creating out their imagination. This refers to art made and produced by artists living today. Philippine artist contributed their share in introducing modern sounds and artistic styles. Filipino artists play an important role in presenting and educating about our history and identity.
