Essay A

South Africa ranks among the crime capitals of the world; murder, such as

rape, robbery, hijacking, and fraud. Even schools are victims of this pandemic.

Seven out of ten individuals have been directly or indirectly affected by crime in

society, including children. It is then safe to conclude that we are a

TRAUMITIZED society.

Write an essay on: Teaching under traumatic conditions

Tips:

• What is trauma?

• Does trauma affect children, schools? Trauma related behaviors on

children.

• Its effects on children’s academic performance.

• How do you teach effectively under traumatic conditions?

• Any intervention programmes for teachers or learners?

Essay B

The focus of education in the past has been on IQ development. An individual

with high IQ scores would be given more preference in any social institution.

However, recent research has proved that it takes more than IQ for someone to

perform well in any work situation. People with a high Emotional Intelligence

are always top performers everywhere.

Write an essay on: Emotional Intelligence in teaching

Tips:

• What is Emotional Intelligence?

• Is it necessary in teaching? If yes, why and how?

• Any implications for the lack thereof?

• How do you apply/instil it in teaching children?

• Any intervention programmes for teachers or learners?

Essay C

More than 80% of South Africa can be regarded as rural with a bit of semi-

urban character. Despite this condition, institutions of higher learning do not

take this important factor into consideration when training their teachers. As a

result, teachers struggle to adapt for a few years in the field because

everything seems new.
