Page 2 P1– Computer Hardware Components Internal system unit components Before purchasing the laptop we need to consider the compo-nents of a computer/laptop. Firstly there is
CPU
(Central proc-
essing unit) it is the main component of the computer/laptop isit handles all the tasks. There is two companies that createsCPU’s are Amd and Intel, both are good either one will begood for Media and business use. The bios (
Basic Input/output System) is a ROM chip
located on all motherboards that sanctions you to accessand set up your computer system at the most fundamentallevel. In the picture below, is an example of what a BIOSchip may look homogeneous to on your computer mother-board. In this example, this is a picture of an early AMIBIOS, a type of BIOS manufac-tured by the AMI. Power Supply
is component which is specialise in pow-
ering all the pc component, you always find them oncomputers if you open the case you will see a powersupply located on the top or bottom. The Power supplyhas cables attached and they are used to connect to themotherboard; you will see that there is CPU, GPU,SATA, PCI express, 20-24pin ATX connector. PowerSupply have variation of power; as you can get 300w, 430w, 500w, 550w, 600w, 700wand 1000w. Depending on your built choosing the right PSU will be efficient.

(Random memory access) a hardware which is
used to help the CPU process tasks better, as that extramemory provides support. There is size variation forRam: 4GB, 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Thelatest ram you can get is DDR 4 memory which statedto be faster than DDR 3. Graphics Card The graphics
card is a component of pc/laptop and it is specialise in Video editing such
as rendering and playing games as they will give out better fps. There are two types ofgraphics card Integrated and discrete. Firstly integrated is graphics built into the mother-board you will see them in most standard laptop and computers. Secondly discretegraphics is where you installed the graphics on to the motherboard as an extra compo-nent. The two main manufactures are Amd and Nvidia as their products are worth theprice.

Page 5 Peripherals MonitorsA monitor is an output/ input devices, asthe monitor outputs the pixels of the com-puter onto the display. It can also be aninput device as you can get monitor withtouch screen which allows you to interactwith the pc. This can be seen when peopleuse the touch screen monitor for graphicas they draw on the screen with a graphicpen. A monitor has resolution as they arescaled by 1336x768, 1920x1080 and nowyou can 2840 x 2160 which is a 4K and this resolution the viewing of imagesand videos are crispy. To connect the monitor you could use a VGA cablewhich can support 1920 x 1080, while DVI can support higher than it.PrintersA printer is a device that accepts text and graphics output from a computer as ittransfers information to paper, usually to an a4 paper depending what size ofpaper the printer can accept. A printer has a function of being able to print outthe text, images in colour as most the standard printers uses to cartridges onefor colour and other for black ink. The printer has a resolution that determinesits sharpness of text and images when printed on paper, as the resolution youusually get is 660 dpi. A printer speed determines how fast it can print paperabout 3-6 sheets per minute.Printer is connected to the com-puter through an Ethernet cable orWi-Fi which the latest one sup-port.

, which is a component specialise for memory as it stores all the
programmes and files of the laptop/pc. Hard drive have variation of size:500GB, 1TB and 2TB. There are two type of hard drive; external and internal.External hard drive is hardware that you portably can take anywhere, it is con-nected by an USB cable.Internal hard drive, is a component that you use to mount on to the pc case. Itis powered by Sata power cable and it is connected to the motherboard by aSata power cable.
Page 7 Backing Storage Pen Drive A pen drive is a portable Universal Serial Bus( USB) flash memory device forstoring and transferring files such as audio, video, and data files from a com-puter. With Pen Drives you can get higher storage compared before as now youcan purchase a 1tb pen drive which is equivalent to1024 GB. Optical media Optical media refers to discs such as CD-ROMS, DVD-ROMS as they are allread by a laser. The optical media is used to store files such as media, docu-ments and pictures. Optical drive capacity ranges up to 6 GB. The optical me-dia is connected to the computer when you place the optical media onto theOptical drive.
