Assignment: Using Database Software to Support Project-
Based Learning
The purpose of this assignment is to allow you to demonstrate (1)
basic technical skills in the development of a database using Access
software and (2) an understanding of how to use this application as an
instructional tool towards supporting project-based learning.
Details of the Project
Working with a collaborative partner ---
A. Use Access Database Software to:
a. Create three (3) individual tables linked by a
primary key.
b. Create four (4) individual records (minimum).
c. Create four (4) fields (minimum) for each record.
one field must require a set of key words (all
records)
one field must have a picture/visual image (two
records minimum)
one field must have an on-line source relevant to
the topic (only one record)
B. Using MS Word software: Provide the following
information (minimum two (2) pages, double space, 12pt
typeface):
a. Explain your rationale for choosing your subject
matter/topic in terms of (1) current Social Studies
Standards, and (2) instructional objectives.
b. Explain how this project/activity could support Higher
Order Thinking Skills or Critical Thinking.
c. Note the name of your collaborative partner.
C. Post your Access Database Project and MS Word document
as artifacts within the Standards Page of your Eport. Please list
them under Standard 6 Instructional Delivery within the Illinois
Professional Teaching Standards.
