Could Bogotá get on the free shuttle bus?

In addition to the financial problems of the system, dissatisfaction with the service is more than diagnosed, as evidenced in the constant citizen complaints and reports that the media have published; The castings in TM, which some technicians estimate at ten percent of the total 250,000 passengers, of 2.5 million users who transport themselves daily, is one of the factors that hinder the service, generating full buses and lower efficiency.

In other countries When evasion gets out of hand and there are so many operational problems, it is valid to propose that transport be free, knowing with certainty how many users are mobilized, the operation could be better controlled. And at the outset, there would be a savings of close to 10 percent in the operation, since it would no longer be necessary to use lockers, recording tourniquets, among others.

For Bogotá it would be possible, as long as resources can be obtained from alternative sources, although the costs of collection and inspection are saved, implementing free services will still require good quality of service, frequency, reliability and occupation to be guaranteed. We would have to do, as in other cities in the world, that transportation is financed by annual taxes plus company sponsorships through advertising strategies on vehicles, but guaranteeing the integration of all public transportation systems, including the subway once built.

Cities such as Salt Lake City (USA.) Are partially free, as there is no charge in certain areas - the most central ones -, but there is a charge in others. In Latin America, only Brazil has 15 cities, where traveling by bus is free. In Poland 30 cities and USA 33 cities, these being the countries with the most populations that offer free transportation.
