Minerva Writes Poems:
To start with, I am going to talk about an extract of the literary work The house on
Mango
Street, written by Sandra Cisneros in 1984.
From my perspective, this extract is located at the end of this work.
I hold the view that, this extract tells us about how Minerva, a neighbor of Esperanza, is
going through very difficult times, since in addition to having to deal with her husband,
who always leaves, and she always has to receive him, she has to support her
children. two children, just as her mother did with her and her sisters, so in order to
vent her suffering she writes poems.
From my point of view, the conflict that I can find in this excerpt is that Minerva refuses
to move on without her husband, since when he supposedly leaves, he always returns,
throwing stones at the door, since at first, he refuses to listen to him again. but after
this he repents, and opens the door again, it is the same case as always, he is falling
into a vicious circle, since the same sequence is followed, he is still forgiving, in
addition, he should be more concerned about the well-being of others her children and
not that of a man who isn't worth it, who doesn't love her, because if he loved her, he
wouldn't do this to her.
I personally think, I don't feel identified with any character, since I think that Minerva
should no longer forgive him and leave him, she should get ahead, just like her mother
did with her and her sisters and not have to vent writing poems, and I don't agree either
with her husband, since he must respect, more than his wife, the mother of his children,
not leave them, because he is also hurting them.
In my view point, this extract is related to the IB theme of Social Organization, located
in subtopic Social relationships because This is a very common case today, to be
honest, I know women who love their husbands more than their own children, since
they feel that they do not have the ability to get ahead without a man, which is a great
stereotype of society, since if a man really loved a woman, he would not leave her
alone, and even less with his children, since he would worry about the well-being of his
family, doing everything possible to get them ahead, but if they refuse to do it, there is
no other way than to get ahead without them, apart from hearing sexist comments, like,
"without me you are nothing", which must be broken, because it is not true.
In closing, I have learned today women must be more independent, have a career, their
own job and not depend on a man, and become aware, because violence is one step
away from this, since some may prefer to be mistreated, with such that their husbands
do not leave them, a woman can be happy without the need of a man.

Bums in the Attic: To start with, I am going to talk about an extract of the literary work The house on Mango Street, written by Sandra Cisneros in 1984. From my perspective, this extract is located at the end of this work. I hold the view that, this extract tell us about, how Esperanza doesn't like her house, and she would like it to be like the house with gardens, as well as the ones where her father works, she feels ashamed of not having a house like the one she would like, and she is tired of looking the beautiful houses of others, and since they are not empathetic with those who do not have a home, which leads Esperanza to think that when she has her own house she will give them a place to stay in her house, because she knows what it is like not to have home. From my point of view, the conflict that I can identify in this extract is that Esperanza should not feel ashamed for not having a home as beautiful as the one she wanted, the only important thing is to be with her family, then they would get ahead, all together, but having that Necessity leads her to think very good things too, since she says that she will accommodate the homeless vagabonds, which will generate great satisfaction for helping her neighbor. I personally think, I do feel identified with the character of Esperanza, since she says that when she has her own house, she will give a lodging to those who do not have a house, because she knew what it felt like to watch while others enjoy their comforts, it has always helped me. I like to help those who need it. In my view point, this extract is related to the theme of the IB Social organization, with the sub-theme Community, since despite the fact that Esperanza did not have the house that she had always wanted to have, one that meets all her expectations, she said that when she had her own home, if you would give an inn to those who do not have one, which will cause you great satisfaction, because you will be helping your neighbor, those who need it, having empathy. In closing, what I have learned from this extract is that one must be empathetic with our neighbor, that one never knows what they are going through and how hard it can be for them, we must put ourselves in the place of the other, because that is a way to be at peace with ourselves, that is one of the reasons why I want to be a 'professional', in addition to helping my family, helping people in need, and why not also homeless animals, that would make me very happy.
