How to describe someone in English

What does he/she look like? When we want to describe someone we need to use some vocabulary (nouns, adjectives, modifiers, verbs) and structures to describe age, height, build, hair, face, clothes and other distinguishing features such as glasses or tattoos.

Age

He/She is very / quite / really young / old.

  • (^) a baby/ toddler / teenager.
  • (^) in his/her 20s / 30s.
  • (^) in his/her early / mid / late 20s.
  • (^) around 20 (years old).
  • (^) middle-aged / elderly.

Height

He/She is 165cm tall.

  • (^) of average / medium height.
  • (^) medhei.[meddy] (informal)
  • (^) relatively normal height.
  • (^) very / quite / rather tall.
  • (^) short / shortish / tiny.

Hair

He/She has (got)… long (length), curly (texture), black (colour) hair.

He/She is really / very / quite / rather / a bit / somehow sweet. My friend Maria is very responsible and polite. My mum loves her. Susan is not only intelligent, but also very hard-working. Peter is quite shy and quiet, but he’s very friendly.
