CA5.1 What Does the Future Hold?: The Changing World
Start by doing the self-correcting exercises which you can find in the classroom in the
Resources section: What does the future hold?: The Changing World.
You can find the
Resources section in the top right corner of the classroom. As you are working through the
exercises, take note of any new language you learn. You will need this to prepare the Tasks
below.
When you have finished, share one thing that you have learnt from these resources (e.g.
vocabulary, expressions or grammar) to the I have learnt something today folder in the
Forum.
In this part, you are going to do a Tandem session in pairs. You are going to talk about the
theme of the self-correcting resources, making use of the required language focus.
There are three stages in the pair work speaking task in Tandem:
Stage 1 Discussion about comparing schedules and availability to arrange an
appointment.
Stage 2 Making predictions.
Stage 3 Brainstorming ideas for different types of campaigns.
BEFORE TANDEM
Use the Discussion area in the Work group space to arrange who you will meet
and at what time (Classroom Work group space Discussion).
You will also need to decide who will start the Tandem activity, as one of you will
need to invite the other person to the task CA5 The changing world.
Please see Appendix for general information about your conversations.

DURING TANDEM

● One of you should start the Tandem task by inviting your partner : 1) select your partner’s name, 2) select the exercise CA5 The Changing World , and 3) click “Start”. Your partner will have 1 minute to accept the invitation. ● Once you are in the session, your recording will begin automatically and will be saved for your teacher to view. Please make sure you are recording with video. ● Introduce yourselves clearly at the outset of the conversation. ● Work your way through the on-screen exercises.

LANGUAGE FOCUS

For this task you will need to use the following structures in the CA5 self-study resources : Future Perfect and Future Continuous.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA Please see Assessment and Feedback in the classroom.

REFLECT IN ENGLISH (FORUM)

Reflect on the point below and post your response to the CA5 I_will_be folder in the Forum:

● Write a few sentences describing how you envision your own life in 2030 and what you will be doing then, e.g., In 2030, I will be living in X.

Read your classmates’ posts and respond to one (or more) of them, commenting on any points of similarity or difference in your envisioned futures. Feel free to continue responding to one another in a dialogue!
