Are we buying needs or wants?

70% of smartphone users upgrade their devices every 2-3 years, while still fully functional

Possible solutions

  1. Developing campaigns in the small scale: Highschools and universities.
    1. What if some apps were only available for old devices? “Retro App Revival” Campaign: Marketing campaign that celebrates nostalgia (current trend) by offering classic apps exclusively on older devices. This could attract users who remember those experiences or want to try them for the first time, and encourage them to keep their devices. “App Museum”: Create an interactive online platform that shows apps from different eras, with some features only available on older devices.
  2. Develop a certification system for electronics brands that source coltan responsibly. Encourage consumers to look for these certifications. This has worked before!! The campaign “movilízate por la selva” has collected 180000 phones in 13 years. What if something was organized at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid? Every small action counts.
