¬ Describe two things that improved the quality of life in

your city or a city you know. ¬

Writing Descriptive Paragraphs

1. Brainstorming: Think of a city you know well that is better to live in now than it used to be. What was it like in the past? What is it like now? Think about architecture, environmental issues, public transportation job opportunities, etc. Complete the Chart with your ideas: City: Bogotá In the past:  The penny war made public transport a horror.  Environmental pollution was terrible due to the number of chimneys that gave off black smoke in the combustion process, generating polluting gases.  Road infrastructure causes monumental traffic jams. Today  Transmilenio arrived to improve mobility in the capital.  Air quality improved thanks to the fleet with better emission standards and the use of cleaner fuels.  Although traffic jams continue to be a problem, mobility has improved with the widening of the road.

  1. Applying: Write about past conditions in the city you thought about in your brainstorming notes. Write the affirmative sentences and two negative sentences. Use simple past and used to. Affirmative: 1. In the past there weren't so many robberies on public transport, it used to be safer. 2. The buses had a sign indicating where they were going, which made it easy to take the right one. 3. There used to be too many buses, which allowed you to take a bus anywhere, you didn't _have to go to the bus stop. Negative:
  2. The buses were not enough for everyone, people used to be caught and outside the bus.
  3. Bogotá was impossible to move due to traffic and air pollution. 3_. Planning: Follow the steps to make notes for your paragraphs Step 1. Write the name of the city you are going to discuss in the chart below. Look at your brainstorming notes and choose the most important things that make this city a better place to live today. Write these two things in the outline. Author: Diana Margarita Araque

Ideas for introduction: Bogota (Capital District). It is the capital city of the Republic of Colombia, it is located in the Sabana de Bogotá, on the Cundiboyacense plateau in the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes, at an altitude of about 2630 meters above sea level. Bogotá was founded as the capital of the New Kingdom of Granada on August 6, 1538 by the Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada after a harsh expedition to the Andes. It has a total area of 1,776 km² and an urban area of 307 km². It has about 7.9 million people. Bogotá stands out for its economic strength associated with the size of its production, the facilities for creating companies and doing business, financial maturity, the attraction of global companies and the quality of its human capital.

  1. Writing and revising: Use the previous draft to answer in the following chart the given questions, and then revise you writing using the editing checklist below. Bogotá is the capital city of the Republic of Colombia, and is located in the Bogotá Savannah, in the Cundiboyacense plateau of the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes, at an altitude of about 2630 meters above sea level. Bogotá was founded as the capital of the New Kingdom of Granada on August 6, 1538 by the Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada after a harsh expedition to the Andes. It has a total area of 1,776 km² and an urban area of 307 km². It has about 7.9 million inhabitants. Bogotá stands out for its economic strength associated with the large size of its productive force, the facilities for creating companies and doing business, financial maturity, the attraction of global companies and the quality of its human capital. Mobility in the city of Bogotá is one of the most important factors considering the evolution and expansion of the capital and analyzed from a perspective that goes from recent years to the present, the Colombian capital has undergone great changes, managing to improve transportation to big scale.. A clear example is Transmilenio, which was developed and implemented to solve the problem of public transportation, as a service aimed at improving the productivity of the city and the quality of life of Bogota citizens, being a massive public transportation system with modern buses, more efficient, with more capacity, putting an end to the penny war that had endangered collective passenger transport. With the arrival of Transmilenio also came the expansion of the road network, and this new infrastructure allows the capital to look more orderly and facilitates the transit of citizens who use this system by shortening travel times, in addition to breathing cleaner air. , Transmilenio makes a positive contribution to the environment, lowering pollution rates, due to progress in the transformation of the transport sector towards clean technologies with a new fleet of buses with better emission standards for polluting gases, promoting the use of cleaner fuels This is due to the use of electric vehicles and technologies with Zero direct emission of Greenhouse Gases and pollutants, thus ending the chimney buses that were scrapped after serving 20 years of useful life transporting the vast majority of capital residents.
