Perception and Attention Experiment: Methodological Details - Prof. Tejero, Apuntes de Psicología

A detailed account of the methods used in an experiment investigating perception and attention. Topics covered include stimuli description, participant tasks, trial events, experimental procedure, and design, including manipulations of independent and dependent variables. Useful for students preparing for exams, quizzes, or thesis research in psychology or neuroscience.

Perception and Attention – Practical Activities (Prof. Pilar Tejero)
METHODOLOGICAL DETAILS OF THE EXPERIMENT
1. Stimuli: Describe the stimuli presented to the participants.
2. Task: Describe what the participants did.
3. Basic structure of the task: Consider: the number of trials and/or their duration in
each experimental condition and/or in each block, the number of blocks and/or their
duration in each experimental condition, and also the pauses to take a rest (when, how
many, how long…).
4. Trial: Describe the events on a trial, including their duration.
5. Procedure: Describe the procedure of the experiment, from the moment when the
participant began their participation to the end (were there any preparatory details?
instructions – training – task – after test)
6. Experimental design
6.1. Independent variables
6.1.1. What factors were manipulated?
6.1.2. Describe the manipulations (experimental conditions, instruments...).
6.2. Dependent variables
6.2.1. What measures were taken?
6.2.2. Describe the techniques and instruments used to measure these variables.
