Present Simple – Introduction to
Verbs
This guide will help you teach Jean Pol how to use regular verbs in the
present simple tense. It includes subject-verb agreement, examples of
affirmative sentences, and a short practice section.
1. Affirmative Sentences
Use the base form of the verb with I, You, We, They. Add -s or -es for He,
She, It.
Subject Verb Sentence
I play I play football.
You eat You eat rice.
He reads He reads a book.
She watches She watches TV.
It runs It runs fast.
We study We study English.
They cook They cook dinner.
2. Rules for He/She/It
Add -s to most verbs: play → plays
Add -es to verbs ending in -sh, -ch, -ss, -x, -o: watch → watches
Change -y to -ies if the verb ends in consonant + y: study → studies
3. Practice – Complete the Sentences
1. 1. I ______ (play) soccer.
2. 2. He ______ (watch) cartoons.
3. 3. They ______ (cook) pasta.
4. 4. She ______ (study) English.
5. 5. You ______ (like) pizza.
6. 6. We ______ (read) books.
4. Creative Activity
Ask the student to write 3 sentences about their daily routine using I, He, or
She.
Example: I wake up at 7. He eats breakfast. She plays games.
