READING COMPREHENSION
- Don’t add extra information that is not on the text and don’t write extremely
long answers. The answers should be well-written, clear and concise.
- Keep your answers objective. Never give your opinion unless you’re asked to.
- If the question’s worth two points, make sure to write more than what you do
when the question is only worth one. If it asks for two facts, that means that
you get one point for each. Don’t leave the answer blank if there’s only a part
you don’t know.
- Don’t lose time trying to find out what every word on the text means, try to get
a general understanding of the text.
- Don’t lift full sentences from the text, always use your own words.
Reformulating the question in your answer is acceptable, but don’t overdo it.
- Search the text for keywords that will help you find the answers to the
questions. You can also underline them if you need to.
- Check the time and make sure you will have time for everything. Don’t lose
too much time reading the text over and over or on a question you don’t know,
you can always go back to it later.
- Some people say it’s better to first read the text and understand it before
answering the questions. To me it’s easier if I look at questions first and then I
identify the answers as I go along. Whatever works for you is fine.
- Extra practice (many of these are multiple choice, but it will help you with
identifying key information):

ERROR CORRECTION

  • Don’t over-correct. Leave it as it is if you are not sure.
  • Many mistakes involve phrasal verbs and prepositions. Try studying the most common ones.
  • Don’t panic if you can’t find a mistake, just go to the next line. You can always go back to it later.
  • Make sure you pay attention to every word.
  • Watch out for misleading sentences and tricks.
  • Don’t underestimate sentences that at first sight seem simple and easy.
  • Ultimately, good luck! This is probably the most difficult part of the exam, but it is not impossible.
