Present Simple Present Continuous
The present simple is used for:
permanent states:
I am English.
I work in Valencia.
I teach English.
habits and routines:
I drive to work every day (it’s part of my daily routine).
I don’t wear white shoes (it’s not my habit).
I like going to the cinema at weekends.
The present continuous is used for:
actions happening at the moment of speaking:
I'm sitting on my bed.
The phone is ringing.
I'm doing my homework now.
Future actions
I’m travelling tomorrow morning.
We are having a party tonight.
Structures
Aff. Subject + verb + C.
I work at the hospital
The verb adds an S in the third person: He, she, it, Juan, my mum, the dog, etc.
He studies English
Study= studies play= plays if the verb finishes in: ch,sh, s, z, x,o +
add ES example: watches, washes, passes, buzzes, fixes, goes.
Neg. Subject + don’t/doesn’t + Verb normal form + C
I don’t work at the hospital.
Int. Do/does + Subject + Verb normal form + C
Do you work at hospital?
Wh + do/does + Subject + Verb normal form + C
Where do you work at the weekends?
Structures
