Impersonal reporting
When it is not important who said it or when it is a commonly
held belief or idea, we can use passive reporting verbs like say,
believe, know, think, consider, claim, expect, suppose,
report, etc with the structure:
It + passive reporting verb + that
People thought she had paid too much.
It was thought that she had paid too much.
People have reported there was a bomb on the plane.
It has been reported that there was a bomb on the plane.
People know high levels of radiation may cause cancer.
It is known that high levels of radiation may cause cancer.

Impersonal reporting

When it is not important who said it or when it is a commonly

held belief or idea, we can use passive reporting verbs like say,

PRESENT TO + INFINITIVE

People believe that Mr Brown owns a lot of money. It IS BELIEVED that the Mr Brown owns a lot of money. Mr Brown IS BELIEVED TO OWN a lot of money. Impersonal/Personal reporting

PAST SIMPLE / PRESENT PERFECT / PAST PERFECT TO + HAVE + P.PARTICIPLE

People have believed that he lied in court. It HAS BEEN BELIEVED that he lied in court. He HAS BEEN BELIEVED TO HAVE LIED in court.

We use a causative verb when we want to talk about

something that someone else did for us or for another person.

To have/get + something + participle

(To have something done)

She had the car washed. He got his hair cut. She is having the walls painted on Monday. She had the lights installed yesterday. He had his hair cut last Monday.
