FOREST FIRES

In the last 12 days, firefighters in Colombia have treated 88 forest fires, of which 83 have already been controlled. Some of which are active are located in Paipa, Boyacá; Prado, Tolima, and Pasto, Nariño.

During the year, 2,853 forest fires in the country were attended to, events that have taken place in 405 municipalities in 29 departments.

The effects of this phenomenon are associated with the decrease of rainfall and increased temperatures, impacts that are felt in the Caribbean, Andean and eastern plains.

In addition, in Santander, eight fires have been reported that have consumed 48 hectares in agreement with the Department of Risk Management this department, situation that forced to raise the red alert.

One of the last incidents occurred in the area of the High Plateau of Giron, where the flames consumed nearly seven thousand meters of vegetation and passed about four hours before the Fire Department could control the fire completely.

The Director of Risk Management of the department, Ramón Ramírez, asked the population to be attentive to the high temperatures that have occurred in Santander, because in most cases the flames start with imprudence that people commit when handling fire. He recalled that the so-called 'controlled burnings' for crops are prohibited in the department, as well as the fires for cooking food in pot rides.

EFFECT

The forest disasters represent a negative impact that affects all the components of the ecosystem both to the communities of living beings such as fauna, vegetation, microorganisms, etc. As to the physical environment, that is the water, atmosphere and microclimate

The impact or effect is directly proportional to the factors known as the intensity of the fires and their frequency, their amplitude and of course the season of the year which the fires act
