John Christopher Depp II also known as Johnny Depp, is an actor, producer, screenwriter
and musician who was born on June 9, 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky, and has become a
celebrity for being one of the most versatile actors, though lately he has given much to
talk about due to the different controversies in which he has been involved.
Depp is the youngest of four children of Betty Sue Palmer and John Christopher Depp. His
family moved frequently, that’s why he lived in more than 20 different places until 1970
when they settled in Miramar, Florida, where he entered Miramar High School, but
because he had had the dream of being a musician since he received a guitar as a gift from
his mother when he was 12 in 1975, he dropped out of High School to become a rock
musician, but 2 weeks later, when he wanted to return, the principal told him it was better
to follow his dream. Currently he has a rock band called Hollywood Vampires with Alice
Cooper and Joe Perry from Aerosmith.
Johnny has been in the acting world since he got a leading role being Glen Lantz in the
horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street, in 1984. This happened thanks to that his first wife
Lori Anne Allison introduced him to actor Nicolas Cage, who advised him to pursue an
acting career. After that, he has devoted his life to acting.
Later, he starred a role in the comedy Private Resort in 1985 and appeared in a minor
supporting role in Oliver Stone’s Vietnam War drama Platoon in 1986. However, fame
came to him in 1987 when he played a police officer in the Fox series 21 Jump Street,
becoming in a popular teen idol during the late 1980s.
In 1990, he starred John Waters’ Cry-Baby, an American teen musical romantic comedy
film set in the 1950s and though it was not a box office success, in the same year, the
actor played the title character in Tim Burton’s film Edward Scissorhands which was a
critical and commercial success that established him as a leading Hollywood actor and
began his long association with Burton. Since then, Depp has starred in most of the films
he has worked on, including: Sleepy Hollow, Pirates of the Caribbean film series,
Sweeney Todd: the demon barber of fleet street, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice
in Wonderland and his most recent work Fantastic beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald,
among others.
Depp debuted as a director and screenwriter with the independent drama film The Brave
in 1997, and though he hasn't directed any other film since then, he has been the
producer of films like: Hugo, Dark Shadows and Mortdecai.
Thanks to his successful career, Depp has been nominated three times for the Academy
Awards for Best Actor, has received one Golden Globe for Best Actor, too, one Screen
Actor Guild Award for Outstanding Performance and a Star in the Hollywood Walk of
Fame, among other accolades.
