1. Attempt a FULL MORPHOSYNTACTIC ANALYSIS of the 2 sentences below. Give as much
information as you can at every level. Here you have some indications to proceed with the analysis (30
minutes):
Identify clause constituents, and the linguistic units that realize them;
identify phrasal elements and the linguistic units that realize them;
identify the morphemic structure of the most interesting examples and indicate type.
The old photographs of the three comic actors who lived in Paris were found in a small box.
Our chemistry young Chinese students bought him a beautiful present.
2. Identify NOUN PHRASES in the following example. ANALYZE them IN FULL. Indicate their
internal structure (functional and formal criteria) (30 minutes):
The team investigating the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq is ending its operation without any
proof that Saddam Hussein had stocks of chemical or nuclear weapons.
3. Decompose the following words into its smallest constituents. Do not forget to classify them all and
identify the word-formation processes involved (15 minutes):
- Interdepartmentally, window-cleaners, dislikeable, reconfirming, women.
4. Classify all the words in the examples below. Explain the criteria you have taken into account (30
minutes):
Her pupils belonged to the best families on the Kingstown line. Although they were old, her aunts
also did their share.
