Negative Interrogative Short Answers

In short answer we do not repeat the whole question. We only use yes or no, the personal pronoun and the appropiate verb form.

1.- Are you a student? Yes, I am.

2.- Is Carlos a teacher? No, he isn’t.

3.- Are John and Peter Canadian? No, they aren’t.

We use the long form of the verb to be in positive short answers.

1.- Are you a secretary? Yes, I am. Yes, I’m.

2.- Is Susan a nurse? Yes, she is. Yes, she’s.

3.- Are the boys French? Yes, they are. Yes, they’re.

 We use the short form of the verb to be in positive short answers.

1.- Is Mrs. Smith a doctor? No, she isn’t.

2.- Are Christian and Patricia Ecuadorian? No, they aren’t.

3.- Is Henry a journalist? No, he isn’t.
