Low level panic”, by Claire McIntyre
“Low level panic” is a well-known theatre play, which was written by Claire McIntyre.
I have particularly enjoyed that play, because the plot talks about three girls and their
points of view about the life. In addition to this, they present us some topics which we
can understand without any difficulties, due to the fact that they are in our society
nowadays.
The three main characters only want to have sex and have fun. They go to parties and
have sex. They don’t care about anything else: these things are their only objectives in
their lives.
In addition to this, the author presents us the topic of rape: one of the girls, Mary, was
raped by two men. It is a topic that unfortunately we have in our society nowadays.
Analysing the behaviour and the appearance of the three girls, I arrive to the conclusion
that Jo, one of the girls, is a reflection of a lot of girls that we have in our society.
Nowadays, a lot of girls are obsessed with their physical appearance, and they are only
anxious with their beauty and bodies.
It is a pity that some girls think by that way, without paying attention to other things
which are more important.
Moreover, we have Mary, the girl who was raped. He started to think about that
situation and wondered why girls are treated as if they were sexual objects.
However, at the end of the play, one of the girls organizes her life, which is a thing that
I liked. The other two don’t change their minds, and they continue doing the same
things: sex and fun.
In addition, they are quite materialistic, because at the end of the play, one of them
thinks about the car of her perfect man.
Talking about the language, there are some colloquial expressions, and I thought it was
difficult to understand the main ideas due to this, and because of previous experiences.
Nevertheless, it is not very difficult to understand the plot. Maybe it is easy because the
play talks about a current topic.
Furthermore, reading this play, I have learnt some new vocabulary and I have improved
my English knowledge.
To conclude, I would like to recommend this play to all people who loves reading,
because it is interesting and easy to read.
