A clinical case study of phoebe jones, a 51-year-old widow experiencing depression following the loss of her husband. The case explores the use of a humanistic, person-centered approach to therapy to help phoebe process her grief, reconnect with her sense of purpose, and regain balance in her life. The diagnostic process, including the application of the zung depression scale, and provides recommendations for continued therapy focused on phoebe's individual needs and empowerment. The general conclusion emphasizes the humanistic perspective on grief as a process of adapting to a new reality and achieving harmony within oneself and the environment. This case study could be valuable for students and professionals interested in understanding the application of humanistic principles in the treatment of depression related to bereavement.

(^44) Carl Rogers (1978) the humanist model emphasizes making the patient aware of his behavior and responsibility towards himself so that in this way he can face said problem with greater efficiency, autonomy and confidence. According to Erickson cited by Volker, Sánchez (1998) indicates that people only become ineffective and disturbed when failed learning or traumatic experiences interrupt normal development. If, on the contrary, the person did not experience this type of deficiencies, they would be in a position to intervene in their own development and take responsibility for their lives. Gonzales et., al (2005) mention that depression maintains two complementary approaches: Depression usually constitutes a reaction of impotence and failure in the face of failed attempts to control the threads of our existence.
Phoebe Jones is a 51 year old woman, marital status widowed and her occupation is being a homemaker, currently Phoebe lives with her son Jacob Jones who is 25 years old. Lately, Jacob reports that his mother exhibits a depressed mood most of the day with sadness, hopelessness, insomnia, and loss of interest in activities she used to do with enthusiasm. (^55) Diagnostic In the assessment process it is inferred that Phoebe is suffering from depression and that the cause of repressing her feelings of grief and sadness is because of the loss of her spouse. From this point on, it could be observed that Phoebe is in a stage of denial about the loss of her husband.
(^77) Through the analysis of the data collected in the anamnesis, and based on the patient's manifestations, we formulated the hypothesis of a possible case of depression due to the loss of the spouse, in addition to not wanting to be a burden for her son, who is very worried about her. To corroborate this, a psychological evaluation instrument to measure depression was applied, which was the Zung Depression Scale (ZDS), in order to determine her level of depression.
INTERPRETATIONINTERPRETATION (^88) The patient is outside the normal limits in terms of depression, i.e. she presents symptoms with a high degree of intensity so far, she may respond at times to situations unfavorably to the demands of her context that generate worry, or tensions, symptoms of sadness, etc. are present. RECOMMENDATIONSRECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that she continue with therapy focused on her and the existential approach. Engaging in activities that bring you joy, connecting with other people, and exploring new interests and passions is encouraged.
It is suggested that you set goals and promote more concrete actions to move towards a more meaningful and fulfilling life. Deep exploration is recommended so that you can help reconnect with the positive aspects of your life.
From the humanistic perspective, grief is considered a process aimed at balancing the interaction between the individual and his or her environment, where harmony and adaptation to the new reality of life after the loss of a loved one is sought. For this reason, it has been decided to work with the patient from a humanistic point of view, with the aim of overcoming grief and achieving a state of balance with herself, with the environment and with life.
