• Para formar frases afirmativas se utiliza sujeto + had + been + gerundio -ing.
I had been training for the whole weekend. Había estado entrenando todo el fin de semana.
Para formar frases negativas se pone sujeto + hadn’t+ been + gerundio -ing.
They hadn’t been sending emails for a long time. No se habían estado enviando emails durante mucho tiempo.

Present perfect continuous form and usage ● Para formar frases interrogativas se utilizar had + sujeto + been + gerundio - ing. Si la pregunta es de respuesta corta Yes/No se utiliza had/hadn’t en las respuestas cortas. A: Had you been watching the Oscar Ceremony all night? B: Yes, I had. A: ¿Habías estado viendo la ceremonia de los Oscars toda la noche? B: Sí. B) USAGE a) We use the past perfect continuous to describe an ongoing situation or action which continued up to, or stopped just before, a time in the past. He had been working on the project for over an hour before his classmates turned up. The few survivors looked really thin. They had been living on meagre rations since the tsunami. (reason why) The eager fans had been waiting in line for over six hours. (focus on duration) . b) We do not mention the number of times that we have done an action when we use the past perfect continuous: INCORRECT: Jill had only been watching TV twice that week. CORRECT: Jill had only watched TV twice that week. (past perfect simple)
