UNIT 2:

FUTURE CONTINUOUS

 Use:

a. An action in progress at a certain future time. I will be doing something (I will be in the middle of doing it). Ex. This time next week I’ ll be on holiday. I’ ll be lying on the beach or swimming in the sea. Don´t phone between 7 and 8. We’ ll be having dinner. At 10 o’ clock tomorrow, she’ ll be in her office. She will be working. b. Complete actions in the future. In this examples will be –ing is similar to (be) going to … Ex. Will you be going away this summer? The government will be making a statement about the crisis today. Our best player is injured and won´t be playing in the game on Saturday.

Use: A completed action at a certain future time. I will have done something (Something will already be completed before a time in the future). Ex. We’ re late. The film will already have started by the time we get to the cinema. Phone me after 8 o`clock. We will have finished dinner by then. Sally always leaves for work at 8.30 in the morning. She won´t be at home at 9 o’ clock. She’ ll have gone to work.

 (^) Form:

  • Affirmative: will + have + past participle
  • Negative: won´t + have + past participle
  • Interrogative: will + subject + have + past participle?
  • (^) Time Expressions:
  • By this time next year: Peter will have finished university by this time next year.
  • By 10 o’ clock: By 10 o’ clock, the plane will have landed in New York.
  • By the end of …: By the end of the year, scientist will have found a new cure for cancer.
  • By then: I can come to the meeting on 8th May. I will have come back from my holiday by then.
  • By November: Most of the leaves will have fallen from the trees by November.
  • In two months: Patients will have finished their treatment in two months.
