Now, the therapy with animals is very popular. Trough the years, many therapys with animals have been developed, with diferent kinds of animals, like dogs, horses, cats, dolphins or sea lions.
This therapy works with four areas of the patient: the emotional part, sensorimotor part, social part and the cognitive part. The patients, like autistic children, or children with cerebral palsy, began with with special trainres and sea lions. Then, they start with relaxation exercises with animals. The results have been very good, because some children improved the treatment with people who have a full contact with the animals.
After several meetings, children show less anxiety of the unknown, and they improve in more areas.

This pioneering therapy in Palencia, Spain, has been carried out thanks to Salvador Tocino, terapeut of San Luis (an hospitalary center in the province). The idea was introduce dogs in the diary activity of this people, in this chase greyhounds, because is a calm and good type of dog, perfect for terapy with illnesses people. Salvador already had developed other therapies with horses, that was very effective.
This recent contribution to the center has produced very good results the patients have the obligation of look after the dogs and for them that’s something that provide them security and independence. They feel loved by their canine mates, and their behaviour problems due to the disease disappear while they look after and teach their pets.
Also, the center therapists recognise that for patients is easily to be with animals that be with people , because animals offer their care without question or trial them, and patients feel it.
