  2. Rules (Reglas de cada tiempo) 1.-In affirmative sentences an “s” must be added to the verb in its simple form; while the negative and interrogative do not, because this is implicit in the use of the auxiliary for 3rd person "does". 2.-When the verb ends either in "s", or in a similar sound like "ss", "sh", "ch" or "x" the ending "es" is added. 3.-When the verb ends in "o", "is" is also added. When the verb ends in "y", and a consonant precedes it, it must be replaced by "i", and then add "is". 1.- General rule of the gerund: Basically (and in a general way) the gerund is formed by adding the ending "-ing" to the verb: Examples: watch / watching speak / speaking 2.- Verbs that end in letter “-e” Verbs that end in the letter "-e" are going to remove this letter and add ending "-ing": Examples: have / having write / writing 3.- Specific cases Verbs where the final consonant is doubled and the ending "- ing" is added Examples: run / running swim / swimming stop / stopping plan / planning
