01 - INTRODUCTION CLASS
Text:
Any kind of communication product, conformed of different communication elements from
which we can extract a meaning by combination their interpretations together.
Understanding a text means not just understand the meaning of each element but the
relation between them.
Clusters:
The different communication elements you can find in a text. The combination of their
interpretations bring the meaning to the text.
The reading of the clusters in a text can be in different orders: Z reading, from the center to
the out parts, from the bigger element to the smallest….
-Example: IKEA: logo, product name, illustration.
Metasemiotic:
A metatext is when there are different levels of textually. A text inside a text. When we post a
meme on Twitter we found a text inside a text, due to we find a joke (meme) involved in a
series of comments that talks about it. That’s how the meaning of the original text grows.
Literates Mapping:
-Media literacy: skills to interpreted, analyze and create a text.
- Information literacy: skills to reproduce a text, to share it, but not created.

Text: Any kind of communication product, conformed of different communication elements from which we can extract a meaning by combination their interpretations together. Understanding a text means not just understand the meaning of each element but the relation between them. Clusters: The different communication elements you can find in a text. The combination of their interpretations bring the meaning to the text. The reading of the clusters in a text can be in different orders: Z reading, from the center to the out parts, from the bigger element to the smallest….

  • Example: IKEA: logo, product name, illustration. Metasemiotic: A metatext is when there are different levels of textually. A text inside a text. When we post a meme on Twitter we found a text inside a text, due to we find a joke (meme) involved in a series of comments that talks about it. That’s how the meaning of the original text grows. Literates Mapping:
  • Media literacy: skills to interpreted, analyze and create a text. - Information literacy: skills to reproduce a text, to share it, but not created.

Both include the ability to think critical. It's not just about speak, but speaking with a meaning, to analyze the situation, process it and been able to give a personal feedback. Enriched Literacy Mapping Literacy as a system of competences: Base:

  • Media ability: to have the resources (pen, laptop…)
  • Environmental ability: understand your environment Center:
  • Use: the fact of knowing how the media works (how works a ssmm, web…)
  • Critical understanding: skill to think critical Top:
  • Communicate: ability to be able to communicate your thoughts Example: video of a boy explaining how a web works. He recognized the clusters and crazies, how well/bad they are connected. He has a background knowledge of how a web has to be, so he can interpret it without knowing and construct a critical opinion of how it works.

Genre: Genres are characterizes as stage, goal orientated social process. They are:

  • Staged: because to achieve a goal more than one phase, move or stage is needed.
  • Goal oriented: because there is a communicative aim that needs to be achieved for the interaction to be considered successful.
  • Social: because the audience type will influence the character of the text construction. Genres can therefore be defined as a recurrent configuration of meanings enacting the social practices of a given culture.
