information and they always end in a full stop. Therefore, A declarative sentence does not

  2. Compound-complex sentence: A compound-complex sentence is a sentence with two or more independent clauses and one or more subordinate clauses. Exclamative sentences

Among the numerous classifications of sentences, exclamatives sentences are one of the four main ones in the English language, which are those used to express a state of mind. These sentences can be recognized by the intonation of the speaker or, in texts, by the inclusion of exclamation marks (“!”). We tend to use it more in speaking than in writing. But, what is the function of an exclamative sentence? The usual function of an exclamative sentence is to help the speaker express a strong feeling, such as happiness, sadness, surprise...and opinion about a situation, an "exclamatory statement". It expresses our personal and magnified assessment of the situation. ● About the structure of exclamatives sentences, we have to consider some of the key elements:

  1. This type of sentence often begins with exclamatory pronouns “ what ” or “ how ” to emphasize an antecedent noun. Usually the structure goes with subject - verb.

In some languages, a question can be asked by changing or switching the verb with the subject. In English, the word order changes from SVO to VSO. In other words, the predicate comes before the subject. For example, the clause: " You are sure " becomes, " Are you sure? " when is in an interrogative clause. [It is formed by reordering the words of its declarative sentence.] Interrogative structures in English are of two main types: The first one is the yes/no type also known as polar type , which means that the speaker asks for confirmation or denial of the clause content, to be expressed by yes or no. [Positive-interrogative and Negative-interrogative]

- Is that woman the teacher? / Isn’t that woman the teacher? *The negative is formed with not, and is most frequently contracted. The other one is the wh-type also known as non-polar type , which asks for the information represented by the wh-word. What the speaker is seeking is to identify that element of missing information, such as: what? who? where? when? - Who came to see you? / When can you come to see us?

  • conclusión The clause types known as ‘declarative’, ‘interrogative’, ‘imperative’, and 'exclamatives' are associated in the grammar with a type of clause. The indicative is the grammatical category typically used for the exchange of information, in contrast to the imperative, which grammaticales our acting on others to get things done by requesting, ordering and so on. The exclamative grammaticales the expression of emotion. Interrogative clauses can be either polar or non-polar. When a clause type is used to carry out the speech act typically associated with it, it is considered to be a direct speech act. Thus, in a direct speech act the declarative is said to have the illocutionary force of a statement, an interrogative has the force of a question, an

imperative has the force of a directive, and an exclamative has the force of an exclamation. The force is the speaker’s ‘intended meaning’ at that particular point in the discourse.
