This short story, originally from china, serves as a reminder that our thoughts and suspicions can distort our perception of reality. It highlights the importance of not jumping to conclusions and accusing someone without solid evidence. The tale follows a lumberjack who suspects his neighbor of stealing his axe based on appearances, only to discover later that he had left it in the forest. This story teaches us that appearances can be deceiving and that we should be cautious in our judgments.

suspicion

"Once upon a time there was a lumberjack who one day realized that he did not have his axe. Surprised and with tears in his eyes, he found himself near his house the neighbor, who as he always did greeted him smilingly and kindly. As he entered his house, the lumberjack suddenly began to suspect and think that it might have been the neighbor who had stolen his axe. In fact, now that he thought it right, his smile seemed nervous, he had a strange look and even said his hands were shaking. Well thought out, the neighbor had the same expression as a thief, walked like a thief and spoke like a thief. All this was thought by the lumberjack, increasingly convinced to have found the culprit for theft, when he suddenly realized that his steps had taken him back to the forest where he had been the night before. Suddenly, he stumbled upon something hard and fell. When he looked at the ground... found his axe! The lumberjack returned home with the axe, repentant of his suspicions, and when he saw his neighbor again he saw that his expression, walk and way of speaking were (and had been at all times) the usual."
