The immigration problem
The immigration is a serious problem that puts in check the EU, and other countries of the First World
such as the United States or Australia. We can find this topic on the news. Here is a comparison of two nice
standing websites (The Huffington Post and the BBC; contrasted with an opinion blog) and about the way
they write.
Every article threat the topic in different ways but they all follow the same
patterns. A formal register is shown in each of them. Both of them, BBC and
Huffington Post, express objective facts. There are not opinions, only quotes that
provide the text more credibility. In all of the articles is a defined structure making
the message clearer and easier to understand. Notwithstanding the cohesion in the
blog is less developed.
The first article: ‘’How can UE respond to influx?’ describe the problems
concerned to Europe and explain a five-step possible way to solve this situation.
This looks like a typical blog post, but when you go deeper you can find a solid text
without personal opinions, always referring to other sources.
The Huffington Post also explains the current immigration problem more in
general putting some extra emphasis in the climate change. This article is made in
collaboration with a scientific organization specialized in the topic. The text is very
formal. This could be seen in the number of euphemisms used along the article.
Finally the David Bacons blog show us a different perspective view of the topic
expressing his personal opinion. It seems like an opinion essay in which he is trying
to convince the readers about what he thinks. The structure is not clear.
As a final feed-back I would like to highlight the first article (BBC) which
developed a complex text in a very easy to understand one, without forgetting the
formal register and arguing everything is written giving more credibility.
