    • SUPERSTITION: That death and nature do contend about them, Whether they live or die (8 – 9).
    • HORROR: I laid their daggers ready (12). I hear the owl scream and the crickets cry (16).
    • EUPHEMISM: and the surfeited grooms (5)
  2. Why does Lady Macbeth feel “bold” at the beginning of the scene?

At the beginning of the scene Lady Macbeth feel bold because she was really sure that the murder never won’t uncover.

  1. What had Lady Macbeth done to facilitate her husband’s work? What does this show about her personality?

To facilitate her husband’s work, Lady Macbeth decided to hide the daggers because nobody will be find it. Lady Macbeth show a courageous and determined character and if we look at Macbeth character I will see that she wear the trousers in their marriage.

  1. What happens to Macbeth immediately after killing the king? Use quotations to illustrate your answer.

He felts sad and he is regretted. He doesn’t think all that he had do and he wanted to turn back on the time.

PART IV - Reflective Thinking and Text Interpretation

  1. Reread the excerpt once more, comparing Macbeth’s and Lady Macbeth’s speeches. What does this reveal about the characters’ personalities? Give examples to illustrate your answer. Lady Macbeth is an incredible woman because she never lose the composure, she is courageous, she doesn’t afraid of nothing. Nevertheless, her husband, Macbeth, is fearful and very insecure. The things and some facts affect him very much and almost always he doesn’t know what to do. Examples: Macb. I have done the deed. Didst thou not hear a noise? Lady M. I heard the owl scream and the crickets cry. 16 Did not you speak? Macb. When? Lady M. Now. Macb. As I descended? 20 Lady M. Ay.
  2. Analyse one of Macbeth’s speeches, paying attention to the rhetorical figures he uses. Macbeth Speech: Lady M. Who was it that thus cried? Why, worthy thane, 52 You do unbend your noble strength, to think So brainsickly of things. Go get some water, And wash this filthy witness from your hand. Why did you bring these daggers from the place? 56 They must lie there. Go carry them; and smear The sleepy grooms with blood. Macb. I’ll go no more.

I am afraid to think what I have done; 60

Look on ’t again I dare not. Lady M. Infirm of purpose! Give me the daggers. The sleeping and the dead Are but as pictures; ’tis the eye of childhood 64 That fears a painted devil. If he do bleed, I’ll gild^1 the faces of the grooms withal; For it must seem their guilt.

In this speech is very clear the insecure character of Macbeth. He feels so regretful about the murder that he have been committed and said to his wife. Lady Macbeth, more courageous than her husband, said him to wash his red hands and forget the problem. We can see some figures of speech as a metaphore in wash this filthy witness from your hand , a personification in The sleeping and the dead , and another methapore in That fears a painted devil. In conclusion we can add that they are an uneven marriage because their characters are very different but this is a positive aspect, because thanks to this uneven they can to complemented.
