Writing: problem-solution essay
You are studying Business at University and a teacher has asked you to
read some information about work-life balance. Among the texts you’ve
read, you find the following:
Today’s workers have many competing responsibilities such as work,
children, housework, volunteering, spouse and parent care and this
places stress on individuals, families and the communities in which they
reside. Work-life conflict is a serious problem that impacts workers, their
employers and communities. It seems that this problem is increasing over
time due to high femiale labour force participation rates, increasing
number of single parent families, the predominance of the dual-earner
family and emerging trends such as elder care. It is further exasperated
with globalization, and aging population, and historically low
employment.
Your teacher asks you to write an essay of about 230 words in which you:
1. describe the current state of the affairs in this regard, summarizing
the content of the text above
2. Pinpoint the main problems and suggest possible solutions
3. Speculate about what the situation will be like in the future
