William Blake

Life

He was born in London on 28

November 1757 and he was an

English poet, painter, and

printmaker. He was

interested in art and poetry from

a young age and became a

professional engraver in 1778. He

entered the Royal Academy in

1779. He published his first work,

Poetical Skatches in 1783 but his

visionary poetry and art failed to

find a sympathetic audience and

he forced look for patrons. He

died on 12 August 1827 in his

obscurity

Song Of Innocence and Song Of Experience

The two works are meant to contrast with

one another, but are the same time

complementary and extends to their

language, whose meaning changes

The Songs of Innocence most of poems are about infancy and are written in a childlike way, They introduce the phophetic tone and visionary element wich was to characterise The Songs of experience was published in 1794. According to Blake, man cannot remain always a child but has to grow and inevitabily go through the stage of Adult experience

Blake’s styles

and themes

He often uses very simple syntax and vocabulary, this is evident by the repetition of certain words, lines and the rythme schemes which gave his poem a musical rythm with a complex argument and reflection. Blake is dissasfied with society with his opinions of immagination and uncorrupted feeling.
