English in the future
who would have predicted 1000 yrs ago that Latin would not be used anymore
In the same way as this we can't know if in 1000 yrs we are going to speak Martians or whatever
Asking about the future of english means asking about the future of life Futurologists are just as unclear
as David Crystal is, for one reason only THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE WHO SPEAK IT, power always drive
lenguage.
english became global for a varaiety of reasons: the power of the british empire, the american
imperialism, the power of the industrial revolution, the power of money MONEY TALKS. and the two
most productive nations of the world Britan and America both using english, the lenguage of
international banking became the pound and the dollar, in the 20th centuary all the things that came
out: pop songs, development of radio and television, air traffic controll and the development of the
Internet.
English will remain the most used lenguage till all the other nation will use it and they want to be like
them or interact with them, so english will stay like that till those nations retain that kind of power.
Another scenario Chinese (they don't want to spread the lenguage), Spanish (the fastest growing), or
Arabic
Over 2m people speaking english, never been so many speaking one lenguage.
Long term future NO IDEA, Short term future no changes.
What english will it be indeed, One scenario says that American english cuz it's the most spoken will get
the dominance, other scenarios says.
All the different englishes are giving some words the the other type, for example American with Britan
english.
In india they speak indian english they use present tense in the wrong way (i'm knowing,
remembering....)
and this is influencing english for example with mac donald slogan i'm loving it.
20 yrs ago no one would have say that
___________________________________________________________________________
English has a plural Englishes and those different type of english actually changes with cultural
things.
For example 400 years when the first people arrived in america on the eastern sea of america.
