The erasmus programme, named after the dutch philosopher erasmus of rotterdam, is a european funding initiative established in 1987 that enables university students to study abroad for a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 12 months. Students receive grants to cover partial costs of their stay and sign a learning agreement with the host university. Upon completion, students receive a transcript of records. Erasmus offers students the opportunity to live abroad, experience a new culture, learn a foreign language, meet new people, and enrich their studies. Returning home can be a challenge, as students may feel disconnected from their old life and struggle to readjust.

Erasmus European community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students. It’s named after the Dutch philosopher Erasmus of Rotterdam, who became the center of European intellectual life during th Renaissance.
The Erasmus Programme is a European funding programme established in 1987 offering university students a possibility of studying abroad, in another country for a period of at least 2 months and maximum 12 months. Each student receives a grant which covers partly the costs of the stay abroad. Grants differ from sending and host countries. Before leaving the home university, the student signs the Learning Agreement, a document that describes the programme of studies followed in the host university. At the end of the stay the host university should prepare a document called Transcript of Records which confirms the completed studies programme and the results.
Erasmus means :
Have you ever heard that life won’t be the same after Erasmus?
The first thing you should know about it is that it will change your life forever. It can teach you to share habits, cuisine, music, hopes and dreams. It is about bridging the gap between cultures, nations and religions. It will broaden your horizons. Two years ago I went in Nantes for a period of 6 months, I studied at the University of Languages and I lived in an University Residence. For this reason I can say that it’s true that school prepares you to face the world, but Erasmus gives you the possibility to test yourself: through a completely new environment, you can discover who you really are. It’s much more than just a break in another country, it gets you totally involved. A few days ago, I read an interesting article on Internet that shows how it is difficult to come back from Erasmus.
Returning home after living abroad is a real problem for a lot of students. Through my experience I can say that this sensation can be understood only by people who really felt it. It’s like a free fall, without any directions. It’s about a social redeployment to a life that you considered as yours but that results newer than the one you just left.
I’ve found this topic very interesting because it’s something that I can understand only now. An Erasmus student is a permanent stranger, when he comes back home, he sees that all have changed, himself too and he doesn’t know what place can be called « home ».
