1. They both have plasma membranes **2. Both contain Ribosomes
The surface area-to-volume ratio is super important for our alien cells because it affects how well they can take in nutrients and get rid of waste. When a cell is small, it has more surface area compared to its volume, which helps materials move in and out more easily. As cells get bigger, their volume grows faster than their surface area, making it harder to exchange stuff efficiently. That’s why a lot of cells stay small or take on special shapes.
Compartmentalization in eukaryotic cells is important because it lets different processes happen at the same time and independently, which makes the cell more efficient. For example, having mitochondria separated allows energy production through respiration to occur without interfering with the other cell activities. This bassically helps the cell run smoothly and stay functional.
IMPACT ON CELL FUNCTION? The Mitochondria is one of the most important organelles of our Alien Cells but it is not part of Endomembrane Pathway. However, the malfunction of it causes a heavy hit to the cell function. For instance many organs can collapse/ dysfunction due to the lack of energy. Since the Mitochndoria is responsible for energy production (ATP), the primary thing powering the organelles, without it, the body and the organelles in general are very vulnerable and are thus easily susceptible to collapse. Furthermore, the Mitochondria is also responsible for Metabolization. It’s involved in both the Krebb’s Cycle, and fatty acid oxidation. So without it, it will be tougher for the cells to be able to properly metabolize nutreients and generate energy.
SOLUTION/TREATMENT? So how do we stop this? Based on the information we already have available, there is unfortunately no effective cure for mitochondrial malfunction/disfunciton. However, our Xylorian Patient shouldnt fret! A few treatements are available to alleviate some of the symptoms present from the Mitochondrial disfunction he experiences. This includes supportive therapy, which may include nutritional management, exercise and/or vitamin or amino acid supplements.
