BUS Interconnection
Definition:
‘’ A bus interconnection network is a collection of processing elements
(processors ) and communication elementsof bus.
OR
‘‘A computer system consist of different devices such as CPU,main
Memory and I/O devices .These devices are connected to an
Internal communication channel of the computersystem to
transfer data between these devices. The internal communication
channel of the computer system is called bus interconnection’
Computer bus:
Definition:
‘’Bus is the common path to transfer data and commands between CPU ,memory and
Input/output devices.’’
Uses of Computer Bus:
The following uses of computer bus are:
(i) Computer bus are used to send and receive data from secondary storage
(ii)Computer buses are used to connect various component that are the parts of computer.
Capacity of a bus:
The capacity of computer bus depends on the number of data lines in it.The amount of data that
a bus can carry at one time is called Bus width
Meaning of higher bus mean:
Ahigher bus width mean that the bus can carry more data .It increase the performance of
of the computer.
-------->> A bus with 32 lines can carry 32 bits or 4 bytes a time
------->> Abus with 64 lines can carry 64 bits or 8 bytes at a time

BUS Interconnection

Definition:

‘’ A bus interconnection network is a collection of processing elements

(processors ) and communication elementsof bus.

OR

‘‘ A computer system consist of different devices such as CPU,main

Memory and I/O devices .These devices are connected to an

Internal communication channel of the computersystem to

transfer data between these devices. The internal communication

channel of the computer system is called bus interconnection’’

Computer bus:

Definition:

‘’ Bus is the common path to transfer data and commands between CPU ,memory and

Input/output devices.’’

Uses of Computer Bus:

The following uses of computer bus are: (i) Computer bus are used to send and receive data from secondary storage (ii)Computer buses are used to connect various component that are the parts of computer.

Capacity of a bus:

The capacity of computer bus depends on the number of data lines in it.The amount of data that

a bus can carry at one time is called Bus width

Meaning of higher bus mean:

Ahigher bus width mean that the bus can carry more data .It increase the performance of of the computer. -------->> A bus with 32 lines can carry 32 bits or 4 bytes a time

------->> Abus with 64 lines can carry 64 bits or 8 bytes at a time

TYPES OF BUSES Diferent types of computer buses are:

1.System bus

(i) Data Bus (ii) Address Bus (iii)Control Bus

2. Expanshion bus

1.System Bus:

Definition:

‘’ System bus is used to connect main component of a computer such as CPU and main memory’’

----->>Computer normally have system bus of 70-100 lines

Types of system buses:

The following explanation of following types of system buses are:

Data bus:

Definfition:

‘’ A databus is a data-centric software framework for distributing and managing real-

time data in intelligent distributed systems’’

Example:

(i) Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI)

(ii)Express and Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) ------->> A computer with32-lines data bus can transfer 32 - bits data at one time -------->> Acomputer with 64-bit line can transfer 64-bits data at one time ----------->>The data bus lines are called Bi-directional

Example:

a computer's CPU will use the data bus to transmit information to and from the central memory. Diagram
