  3. Moral Read and Ponder ONE DAY ON THE ROAD By Temistrokles M. Adlawan Cebu The plot focuses on 2 tricycle drivers, namely Miguel and Sherwin, in One Day on the Highway. One day as Miguel drops off the last passenger, he heads back to a stop immediately to get another passenger. He saw Sherwin driving his tricycle faster than him as he goes back. Miguel thought Sherwin proposed a competition on who gets more passengers and who’s the fastest among them. With that Miguel got into an accident where he lost control of his tricycle, which swayed to the side of the road and lurched. The narrative is told in present tense as it helps us, the readers, to express the transition in a character as it occurs. If a novel is written in the present tense we are with the writer there as he changes the story’s mood. Miguel kows the fundamental of being a tricycle driver for me, but he lacks understanding of the real meaning of being one. Since I know for myself that a tricycle driver’s purpose is to safely drive your passenger at his/her destination and not to compete with other drivers. As the story goes on, we can also see that Miguel feels like Sherwin is one of his rivals because Sherwin drives faster than him. The last part of the text that I liked most was the one where he said “Never Again!” as the words of Miguel mentioned that he would never again let his pride take over his mind and feelings, which was the author’s intention to teach us a lesson to readers. In the start of the story we can see the point of view of Miguel which is he is wearing a rayban sunglasses and was challenged by Sherwin to a race he can easily don’t accept the offer since its dangerous but the pride of Miguel got into him and accepted the offer which in the end led Miguel into accident and Sherwin rushing him to the nearest hospitals.

  2. We can see that Miguel take to himself doing the encounter about the senselessness of racing against Sherwin. What are the factors that compel Miguel to try to race?
  3. The accident that flings Miguel to the soft power soil become for him the point of transformation. What is the importance of Miguel saying ‘’never again’’? how did the near-tragic experience change him?
  4. In the last sentence, Miguel says that he ‘’also lost the ray-ban which had barred my eyes from seeing.’’ How does this reference to seeing change, read alongside the character’s transformation. Effective Date: 7-DEC- What have you learned in the activity? Read and Ponder As defined by the oxford English dictionary, century, in contemporary use, is popularly calculated as beginning in a year that ends with ‘’00’’. The meaning of century relates to the new curriculum for Philippines’ literary. The Department of Education launches a new field of study in literature called the 21st-Century World Literature from the Philippines and the world. However, a crisis has beleaguer the category 21st- Century Literature World Literature, its inability to cease the expansive and continuous mutation of literary works that can be classified as emblematic of its time has cause this crisis, because the rarity of such category has not yet reached the extent in which one can strike a solid distinction between the present and the past. More so, the present literary imagination repeatedly changes the opinion between the past and the future within the circumstances of the present. However, the fundamental problems of such category are both practical and theoretical. The practical sides of this category would be the resources of literary works for mass dissemination. On the other hand the theoretical side of this problem is its unrecognizable fact that 20th^ Century remains to be influential and powerful in shaping its direction. Despite all this issue and problems, we cannot deny the fact that this modern category have advantages for us Filipinos, especially the Filipino, migrants and traveller who makes 21st^ Century World Literature stories which enable us to see various and different culture and life or rather the perspective from worldview. The category ‘’worldview’’ Is a rather flimsy and difficult one to define and build on. The worldview contain enormous world literature from different countries and perspective. Also, the worldview is a way of comprehending reality. Philippines literature-works produced by Filipinos, whether locally or abroad-can indeed be placed within the category of world literature.
