(a) “ Distributed database management systems (DDBMSs) have common property of allowing the end user to believe that he/she is working with a centralised database management system.“ Discuss the above statement with regard to transaction transparency. Distinguish between remote request, remote transaction, distributed transaction, and distributed request. Use diagrams and examples to support your answer. (25 Marks)
(b) Most commercial database management systems support the two-phase commit (2PC) protocol. Outline this protocol and discuss its implications for transaction processing in a distributed environment. (8 Marks)
